PETUNJUK: Paragraf berikut mengandung sejumlah kesalahan. Temukan kesalahan dalam paragraf sebanyak mungkin. Betulkan kesalahan tersebut, tulis pada ruang yang disediakan. Kemudian gunakan hasil pembetulan Anda untuk menulis ulang paragraf tersebut.

Paragraph 2

The speaker says that no many animals can capture the attentions of both young or old people like a dinosaur.  One of the most well known dinosaurs is the animal we used to call as the “brontosaur.” Everyone familiar with this dinosaur. It has appearing in museums, movies, advertisements, even in cartons such like The Flintstones. But in recently, this animal has other name. It is now called as the “apatosaurus.” The speaker believes that we should keep their name as the “brontosaurus.” The author of the article that we read is not agree with this concept. He says is not scientific or fair to name this creature as a brontosaur. In 1877 a scientist who’s name was Marsh found the bones of a dinosaur and he named it as apatosaurus. In 1879 another scientist who’s name was Cope found the bones of a dinosaur. He has believed it was a difference species and called it as a brontosaur but later was learned that these two animals were same. A international commission for naming animals has rules that say the name given for the first animal to discover is name that should use. Therefore the name apatosaurus is really correct.

Penulisan yang lazim menggunakan hypen (-) >> well-known

Tiadanya verba “is.” Agar menjadi kalimat yang gramatikal diperlukan verba “is.”

4.    It has appearing seharusnya It has appeared

Setelah kata bantu has seharusnya diikuti oleh past participle atau kata kerja bentuk ketiga.

such selalu berpasangan dengan as >> such as. Tidak semestinya berpasangan dengan like.

5.    But in recently seharusnya But recently tanpa preposisi in (berlebihan dalam memilih kata). Atau bila mau dipakai preposisi “in” frasanya menjadi But in recent time = But recently.

6.    Tidak ada pembetulan.

7.    … keep their name seharusnya … keep its name.

Yang diperlukan adalah kata ganti posesif tunggal untuk kata dinosaur.

8.    The author is not agree with seharusnya The author does not agree with

Salah dalam menggunakan kata bantu (auxiliary), yang diperlukan kata bantu does bukannya is.

9.    He says is not scientific seharusnya He says it is not scientific

Diperlukan kehadiran subyek untuk kalimat . . . is not scientific.

10. a scintist who’s name seharusnya  a scintist whose name

Yang diperlukan adalah relative pronoun whose (salah dalam memilih kata).

11. another scientist who’s name seharusnya another scientist whose name

Yang diperlukan adalah relative pronoun whose (salah dalam memilih kata).

12. He has believed it was seharusnya He had believed it was

Di sini diperlukan kesesuaian tenses dalam masa lampau (had + was).

It was a difference species seharusnya It was a different species

Di sini yang diperlukan adalah adjektiva untuk menerangkan species (difference = nomina sedangkan different = adjektiva).

Diperlukan kehadiran subyek untuk kalimat . . . was learned that

Di sini diperlukan kehadiran artikel the untuk melengkapi kata same.

Di sini diperlukan artikel An dan bukan A di depan huruf hidup “i.”

Untuk penulisan nama, huruf awalnya harus menggunakan huruf capital.

14. Therefore the name apatosaurus seharusnya Therefore, the name apatosaurus

Pemakaian conjunctive adverb dalam klausa independen tunggal diperlukan koma setelah kata therefore. Kalimat tersebut dapat ditulis dengan tiga cara:

• Therefore, the name apatosaurus is really correct.
• The name apatosaurus, therefore, is really correct.
• The name apatosaurus is really correct, therefore.

Ketiganya secara gramatika benar.
